Alumni Weekend Agenda
Events Friday through Sunday

Alumni weekend has arrived! Read below for details of the festivities.
Friday
10:00 am: Annual Golf Tournament at Apple Greens. If you want to secure a last-minute spot, reach out to Todd Hughes for info.
5:00 pm: Happy Hour at P&G’s. Yes, the pitchers will be flowing. Hopefully the conversation will be too! As all of you successful alumni so generously spring for drinks for of age players, take the time to talk to them as well. What’s your major? What are your plans for after graduation? Do I know anyone in that field? Do you want to keep playing rugby?
Saturday
11:00 am: The current teams will be hosting a scrimmage of some kind. There will be no formal game this year. After a long debate with the school administration, it was determined that the game could not be held due to liability purposes. They were told this extends to even playing touch on both school grounds, and Village of New Paltz grounds. Whether or not you agree with this, they are worried about being suspended by the school for any violations of this ruling. Please don’t risk doing damage to the clubs because you want to play (or just watch) an hour of rugby once per year.
12:00 pm: The women’s team will be hosting a potluck picnic at Hasbrouck Park in front of VanDenBerg Hall. They have registered a permit through the town of New Paltz for the picnic and are asking for help to offset the cost of $105. Below is a link for donations to that.
2:00 pm: The boys will be joining at Has Park to bbq. They are buying food, but would appreciate any help with prep and cooking! Donations to help cover the cost of that food can be sent to: @Matthew-Yates-73 on Venmo.
10:00 pm Formal Banquet at McGillicuddy's on Main St. One hour open bar and food until 11:00 pm. Tickets are $54 for food and drink, or $19 for a non-alcoholic option. These will be sold at the door only.
Sunday
11:00 am: Brunch at P&G’s
Remember what you’re here for
It’s important this weekend, more than any other weekend, to remember the purpose of an alumni organization. Being part of a group such as this allows us all to not only keep in touch with each other over the years, but also stay connected to the program in its current state. A true alumni organization helps to further the progress of the program they identify as being alumni of.
Anyone who is taking the time out of their busy life to travel to New Paltz and celebrate this club, is clearly doing so because the club has had a profound impact on their lives. Keep that in mind as you conduct yourself throughout the weekend. This is a an opportunity to network with students who are now in a position you once were. Did you ever wish that an alum took the time to talk to you about a future career? Were you excited to see the guy who bullied you and made you chug beers? What sort of impression do you want to leave on these student-athletes? It is entirely up to you to be a positive influence on the club and its future. Don’t be a creep. Be kind to people. Help these kids wherever you can. I promise you’ll be happy you did.
Go Hawks. 🦅
