Final Whistle of Fall
A Strong Finish for the Hawks Rugby Program
As the fall season comes to a close, both the men’s and women’s teams ended on high notes that point to a bright future. From tough early losses to nail-biters and bounce-back wins, the growth in both squads has been undeniable.
Men’s Team: Statement Win to End the Season
The New Paltz men’s team wrapped up their regular fall season with a 46-17 victory over SUNY Maritime at home on October 26th.
Club president Matt Yates reflected on the turnaround:
“After a couple of rough losses, the young New Paltz team beat SUNY Maritime 46-17. It was an incredible effort from all the rookies and our returning players… a great way to end our regular season and shows the work we’ve put in.”

Women’s Team: Heartbreaker in the Quarterfinals
The women’s team traveled to Molloy for the Tri-State Quarterfinal and came agonizingly close to advancing, falling 32-31 in the final play of the match.

“I'm beyond proud of this team for all their hard work and efforts,” said Coach Gel Silva-Perez.
“I've been on the team before coaching and we've never been so strong on defense. The game was so captivating that a few parents there for youth soccer started spectating and asking questions.”

Despite the narrow loss, the Hawks ended their season ranked #17 nationally in Division III by the National Collegiate Rugby weekly coaches’ poll, a testament to the strides made by a young, resilient squad.

The team also wanted to be sure to thank all of you donors out there. Because of you they have been able to rent game-day buses and are in the process of printing new practice shirts for the team.

Correction from Last Week
In our previous issue, we mistakenly mentioned that the women’s team received a red card in their October 12th game. That was incorrect. The team finished the game down a player due to heat exhaustion and injuries, not because of a sending-off. Thanks for your understanding, and apologies for the mix-up.
That’s a Wrap on Fall 2025
From every new recruit to every loyal supporter, thank you for helping make this season one of real growth and forward momentum. We’ll return in the spring with more rugby, more stories, and more ways to get involved.
Until then, Go Hawks. 🦅
